Learn project management: a beginner roadmap
Most people learning project management for the first time start with templates and tools, because those are easy to find. Scope, outcomes and governance are what decide whether a project works. Templates only record the thinking.
This page gives a sequence: what to learn, in what order, with a check at each stage, plus a 30 day plan you can follow without an account and without spending anything.
The learning sequence
Understand what a project is, then scope and outcomes, planning and schedule, risk and issues and change, stakeholders and communication, governance and decision rights, quality and acceptance and benefits, and finally judgement and delivery practice.
A 30 day beginner roadmap
Week one covers foundations and vocabulary. Week two covers planning and control, including a breakdown, dependencies, ranged estimates and a RAID log. Week three covers stakeholders, governance and reporting. Week four consolidates through judgement practice and review.
Discipline or qualification
Learning the discipline aims at competence and produces delivery evidence. Studying for a qualification aims at a syllabus and produces a credential. They reinforce each other and neither replaces the other.
Free resources to practise with
